What Will You Give to Jesus?
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. (Mat 25:20 KJV)
The Word is pretty clear that someday we will be facing Jesus and giving account for what we have done with the “talents” He has given us. What will you offer?
I was thinking of this recently when I heard about a lady who had laid aside everything else to get a translation of the Lord’s Prayer recorded in every language of Russia. I thought, what a great offering on that final judgment day when we will be given rewards according to our works.
Whatever your eschatology you can’t escape the sobering reality that if our names are written in the book of life, then our works will be weighed and evaluated at a certain “Day.” If our names are not written in the book of life our works will not matter because we will be judged and thrown straight to the lake of fire.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:12-15, KJV)
I have already decided that the very best I can offer my Savior at that moment will be the sound of His Gospel in over 100 languages. I’m hoping that He will respond with not only a well done but will offer to display the fruit that came from those recordings. I already know from personally following up on just a few of those languages that there will be many believers and even churches that spontaneously call me “pastor.”
The only purpose I can contrive for the parable of the talents is to cause us to think seriously about what we are doing with the resources God has given us. How much is going to be “gold” and how much is going to be “wood, hay, and stubble”? (I Cor. 3:11-15)
