The Wall of Pain
On a brick wall in our interior patio here in Oaxaca we have made a graphic that tangibly displays the unrecorded language situation. This could be likened to the wailing wall in Jerusalem because here we pause and pray for so many many unreached.
On the first photo you see the situation, as it was when we started in June. Notice that the right panel is pretty bare. The right panel represents recorded languages. Notice also that the top section of the walls represent Oaxaca languages only and the bottom section of the walls represents languages in the rest of Mexico. Not included in this wall are the 300 recorded languages that are already in regular use.
On the second photo you have a progress check on languages as of Oct. 17, 2021. Of note is that the right wall is starting to have recorded languages. Eleven languages have moved to the recorded column- mostly in the state of Oaxaca. Another three have been moved over because we have found that they already have recorded content from other missions- mostly audio New Testaments from SIL, Scripture Earth, or the Jesus Film. Six on the far right represent languages that are either extinct or moribund.
Another graphic that is more portable and useful on the field is a Google map that pins every unrecorded language to the central village of use. This goes on our cell phones and is interactive. We can zoom in and get specific information on how to go there and information on a selected language on the map. Nathaniel is putting a lot of time on loading more data to this tool so we can make better decisions about what needs to be recorded. On that map we want to see significantly more red (unrecorded) dots become blue (recorded).
As time goes by and as you pray we want to see every one of the unrecorded languages move over to the recorded side of the wall. We will all look forward to that.
God Bless,
