Chain Links
Recently Nigerian center leader Kish told me of a new technique for bringing in new languages.
As I understand it, when they are working in a language cluster, and when they have finished recording a language they will send those language helpers to recruit language helpers in the next language.
The advantage of that is that they have just finished the process and can answer many of the questions that a prospective language helper will have. Those unanswered questions are often why a prospective language helper will say they cannot do it. They will have heard the recordings that were played from related languages (That is always encouraged if for no other reason than to evaluate them.) It might be genuine lack of confidence in their own translation abilities or their ability to preach a complete story or the cost and time involved but a former language helper can answer all those questions and they have successfully completed languages contacted in this manner. Kish refers to it as the “chain” method.
In a country where travel is perilous and outsiders in a village are automatically suspected as being bandits on the prowl this chain linking process is an answer to prayer.
