Marghi
This is a fishing story. A story about 5fish.
I met Sicavia and (as I normally do) I asked him how many languages he spoke. He mentioned a handful of languages and then I asked him about his mother tongue. He said, “Marghi Southern.” I looked it up on 5fish and played it for him. He was astounded and though he is in the Bible translation business as a consultant he had never heard of this resource. He downloaded the app on his phone and then made a request.
He immediately saw the potential for installing new material in his language. He had just finished translating the fifty stories of the Unfolding Word into his language. He showed me the printed book with the illustrations that come with that series, also in his language. He wanted to know if we could record that in his language.
On the spur of the moment I said that we could give him the recording equipment and he could do it himself since we were not in a position to travel to his Islamic area. You see him outfitted with the head mounted mike and the recorder itself in his hand. The recorder is the Zoom F2.
Three weeks later Sicavia came back with three and a half hours of the fifty stories spanning the entire Bible record. Because the Zoom F2 does not play back, he had done all that in good faith without hearing a word of it. We downloaded the audio files onto his laptop as well as on Nathaniel’s and he was delighted to hear the sound of his own voice in professional quality preaching the Word. Nathaniel is editing this now and we hope that before long these messages will be on 5fish for these 150,000 people.
But, that is not all. Sicavia wanted to know if he could use the recorder to do the Bible Stories in four other languages. These are languages that do not have any Scripture or other Gospel resources. They are languages for which he is a translation consultant. They already have some Bible stories translated in each variant of this Sakko cluster. He told us that through the testing of some of those translated stories, they were able to start a new church. He anticipates broadcasting those stories through 5fish to many villages that have nothing.
Thanks 5fish. This time you landed a big one. And not coincidently his last name is Sampson! Pray for God’s blessing on Sicavia and this project and everything else he is doing, and for the day when he will also be fishing for men with 5fish.
God Bless,
